Detailed Instructions

Search Window

The Search window allows the ability to enter a species name, location (e.g. county, town park or water body) or an iMapInvasives ID#. When either location or iMap ID# are searched the map will zoom to the location of the search criteria. When a species name is searched iMap will conduct a query on that species name and show all observations and approximate locations of the searched species.

To use the Search window start typing the search criteria, in some cases (species and location) iMap may suggest search criteria; if your criterion is listed you can select it from the list, if iMap does not make a suggestion continue typing the full text. Once the criterion is entered in the window, click the magnify glass button to start the search. Click the refresh button to clear the search and refresh the map.

The side-bar contains most of the map functionality including Quick Zoom, Queries and the Map Layer Controls. The Side-Bar can be collapsed by clicking on the light blue button with the double arrow (<<) to increase the size of the map window. Query

Active Query:

Works only for observation data. Select the “Configure Query” button to open iMapInvasives Custom Observation Query page, select your query criteria from this page, once your query criteria are selected a new map will open displaying the result of the query. To clear the query select the “Clear Query” button, this will show all observation data.

Species Distribution Queries:

For both public and registered users species distribution queries allow the display invasive species distribution by county, PRISM or watershed (HUC 8). Public users will be limited to a subset of the full species lists while registered users will be able to query all species records in iMapInvasives.

Species distribution maps can be viewed by selecting the name (scientific or common) of the invasive species of interest from the drop down list, then select the map division (county, PRISM or watershed) of interest. The map will display a color coded overlay showing the relative number of observations for each map division.

By ID:

Query by ID allows the user to select the iMapInvasives record type (Observation, Survey, Assessment or treatment) and then input an iMapInvasives record ID number (NY-#####X) and view the point on the map by clicking “Show” or zoom to the point by clicking “Zoom To” and clear the point by clicking “ Clear”.
