Side Bar
The side-bar contains most of the map functionality including Quick Zoom, Queries and the Map Layer Controls. The Side-Bar can be collapsed by clicking on the light blue button with the double arrow (<<) to increase the size of the map window. To expand the Side-Bar click the light blue button with the double arrow (>>).
Individual Panels on the side bar can be expanded and collapsed by clicking the arrow button to the left of the panel name.
Map Navigation
Zoom: to increase or decrease the scale of the map either use the slider bar in the upper left side of the map window or use the scroll wheel in the center of your mouse.
Pan: the map can be panned (moved) by using the navigation arrows in the upper left corner of the map or by clicking and holding the left mouse button or scroll wheel and "dragging" the map to view the location of interest.
Query
Observation ID
Query by observation ID allows the user to input an observation ID number (NY-#####U), view the point on the map by clicking “Show” zoom to the point by clicking “Zoom To” and clear the point by clicking “ Clear”.
Custom Query
Select the iMapInvasives data type you would like to query and click the "Configure Query" button. This will bring you to the Configure Query menu. From the Configure Query menu, select your query criteria. When complete, click the "View on Map" button. The query results will be displayed on the map. To clear the query, click the "Clear Query" button either on the map or the Configure Query menu.
Species Distribution Queries
For both public and registered users species distribution queries allow the display invasive species distribution by county, PRISM or watershed (HUC 8). Public users will be limited to a subset of the full species lists while registered users will be able to query all species records in iMapInvasives.
Species distribution maps can be viewed by selecting the name (scientific or common) of the invasive species of interest from the drop down list, then select the map division (county, PRISM or watershed) of interest. The map will display a color coded overlay showing the relative number of observations for each map division.
Species Query
Species query allows the user to create a custom query of species observation locations by any combination of county, species name (scientific or common) and observer’s organization. To view observation locations select either a single category or any combination of categories such as:
County: All Counties County: Essex Common Name: Common Reed OR Scientific name: Phragmities australis Oranization: All organizations Organization: Adirondack Nature Conservancy"Show Everything" will disable the query and show all invasive species observations.
"Hide Everything" will hide all invasives species observations:
"Turn on Species Layer" will show the results of an active custom query, if no query is active the locations of all invasives species observations will be displayed.
Layers
The layers panel shows the layers visible on the map and allows the ability to turn layers on and off as well as change the draw order and the opacity of layers.
Layers can be turned on an off by clicking the box or circle to the left of the layer name.
Layer order can be changed by clicking the up and down buttons to the right of the layer name.
Layer opacity can be change by clicking on the button to the right of the draw order buttons for each layer and selecting the opacity from the opacity window.
